Hobbs State Park To Host Night Sky Viewing

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Hobbs State Park Conservation Area will host an astronomy workshop at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Visitor Center. The workshop will be followed by a night sky viewing.

Participants will build their own full-scale working model of the telescope used by Galileo 400 years ago. The workshop is for those ages 10 and older. Stuart Riley of NWA Star Gazers will teach the workshop.

Night sky viewing will follow the workshop if skies are clear. Participants are asked to bring a tripod for the Galileoscope, a folding chair, binoculars and a flashlight with the lenses covered either with red cloth or a red balloon.

Cost is $35, plus tax, and includes one Galileoscope and instructions for up to four people in a group. There is a $5 charge for each additional person.

For reservations call 479-789-5000.

The Visitor Center is located on Arkansas 12 just east of the intersection with War Eagle Road.
