Waynesville Holds Off Rogers

ROGERS — Waynesville, Mo., senior Kellion Williams saved his best for last.

Williams hit three 3-pointers over a four-minute span in the fourth period as Waynesville pulled away to defeat Rogers High 54-47 in a semifinal game at the Arvest Hoopfest in King Arena.

Waynesville will play Rogers Heritage for the Arvest title tonight at King Arena. Rogers (2-3) will face former 7A-West Conference foe Fort Smith Southside in the third-place game today at 4:30 p.m.

Williams finished with 20 points while junior Juwan Morgan added 18 points 13 rebounds for the Tigers. Arkansas coach Mike Anderson watched Morgan, who is rated by Rivals.com as the 138th best junior in the country.

Waynesville led 37-34 going to the fourth period but Williams hit back-to-back 3-pointers with under five minutes left in the game to give the Tigers a 46-36 lead. Williams then hit another 3-pointer with just under two minutes left for a 51-40 lead.

“Williams is a good player, and he stepped up down the stretch” said Waynesville coach Chris Pilz. “Rogers played well.”

Hunter Hill led Rogers with 14 points while Jake Killingsworth added 13. Mounties Edgar Martinez and Zach Street added 10 points each. Waynesville outrebounded Rogers 31-20 and the Tigers finished with 13 secondchance points.

“Really proud of our guys,” said Rogers coach Wayne Herren. “We were close a couple of times, staying right there. Williams is a heck of a player, and he will be playing on Saturday’s for sure.”

MOUNT VERNON 51, PEA RIDGE 35

Mount Vernon erased a six-point third period defi cit with a 25-0 second half run to defeat Pea Ridge in a loser’s bracket game.

Pea Ridge (1-4) took a 32-26 lead on a 3-pointer by Blake Sheppard two minutes into the second half but the Blackhawks would not score again until Lloyd Kalberloh hit a 4-pointer with 22 seconds left in the game.

Chandler Myers led Mount Vernon with 22 points, including 14 in the fi rst half that kept the Mountaineers with 29-22 at halftime.

Grayson Ketron added 12 points for Mount Vernon and the senior scored eight points during the 25-0 run. Luke Call finished with nine points for Mount Vernon.

Zach Davis led Pea Ridge with eight points while Bryce Beckmann added seven.

Pea Ridge will play Webb City, Mo., today at 1:30 p.m. in the seventh place game. Mount Vernon will play Tulsa Edison in the fi fth place game at 3 p.m.
