PREP ROUNDUPS PREP BASKETBALL GIRLS ROGERS HERITAGE 43 VAN BUREN 41

Gina Britton came up with a huge steal in the waning seconds to help Rogers Heritage earn its fi rst win, 43-41, over Van Buren in girls basketball action on Friday morning at Tahlequah, Okla.

Van Buren had the ball with a chance to tie or win in the fi nal seconds, but Britton, a 5-7 senior, stole a pass to help Heritage (1-4) hold on for its first win of the season.

Heritage coach Kevin Ramey said his team got off to a much better start, after suffering a 53-32 loss on Thursday.

“We probably played better than we’ve played all year,” Ramey said.

“We did a good job rebounding.

They had a 6-1 kid we were worried about, but we rotated three different post players and did a good job on the boards.”

Junior Emilie Jobst poured in a team-high 17 points, including two key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Van Buren took a brief one-point lead, but Jobst canned a 3-pointer to give the Lady War Eagles the lead for good. Britton chipped in 13 and Sara Giesen added nine.

Heritage will finish play in the tournament today at 1 p.m. against the Tahlequah-Coweta, Okla. winner. SPRINGFIELD (MO.) PARKVIEW 60 ROGERS HIGH 51

Rogers High had fi ve players foul out as the Lady Mounties lost at the Stephanie Phillips Classic at Springfield, Mo. Kickapoo. The Lady Mounties (1-3) shot just 13-of-30 from the free throw line.

Libby Ganoung led Rogers with 22 points and 13 rebounds while Callie King added 13 points. The Lady Mounties will play either Jefferson City, Mo. or St. Louis McClure North today.

BOYS HARRISON 60, FAYETTEVILLE 59

Silas Huskey nailed a 28-foot desperation heave at the buzzer, lifting Harrison to a 60-59 win over Fayetteville at the Wampus Cat Invitational on Friday.

The Bulldogs took a 59-57 lead with 2.7 seconds left when Luke Renner scored an uncontested lay-up on a drawn up, inbounds play. After a quick Goblins timeout, Huskey raced down the court and just beat the expiration clock to give Harrison the thrilling win.

“We didn’t play very well early,” Fayetteville coach Kyle Adams said.

“We were sluggish in the fi rst half and we looked like we’d been on a long bus ride the last two days.

“I was proud of the way we came back in the second half. We played good defense and did the things we needed to do to win a game, but we have to do that for the entire game.”

Payton Willis led Fayetteville (3-2) with 14 points and C.J. O’Grady, Blake Young and Renner each added 10 points.

The Bulldogs close out the Wampus Cat Invitational against theConway-North Pulaski loser at 5:30 p.m. today.
