Finalists Named For Fayetteville Athletic Director Post

FAYETTEVILLE — Three applicants are finalists for the athletic director position at Fayetteville High School.

The finalists are Kyle Adams, head basketball coach at the high school; Steve Janski, athletic director and head football coach at Heber Springs High School; and Kerwin Dees, who was a coach and athletic director in Prairie Grove and Siloam Springs.

A committee of administrators and faculty narrowed the original pool of 36 applicants to 10. Interviews were held and three finalists emerged. Superintendent Vicki Thomas will interview the three and forward her recommendation to the School Board.

Thomas has said she wants to name an athletic director at Thursday’s board meeting. The athletic director’s position isn't listed on the agenda but Thomas has the authority to add the hiring to the agenda at the start of the meeting.

The timetable used in the selection process was to fast track the application and selection process to fill the position as soon as possible after the resignation of Barry Gebhart. Gebhart, 50, was arrested in October in connection with Internet stalking of a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl. The girl turned out to be an undercover Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
