Water Causes Minor Damage At Bentonville School

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

— A water sprinkler that froze and burst Saturday at Bright Field Middle School caused minor damage, according to School District officials.

The broken sprinkler was in a hallway and water ended up in eight to 10 classrooms, said Superintendent Michael Poore. The carpets in those rooms have been dried, he said.

Some ceiling tiles will need to be replaced, said Paul Wallace, district director of facilities.

The incident will not prevent Bright Field from reopening along with other schools whenever the district decides to resume classes. Bentonville schools have been closed since Dec. 5 because of the weather. There is no school today.

The district has not experienced any other weather-related facility problems, Wallace said.

“We’ve been fortunate,” Wallace said. “We’ve been through the buildings daily. When they do decide to call school back in, hopefully (the buildings) will be as ready as they possibly can.”
