Taylor R. Stovall of Fayetteville has been awarded a Missouri Outreach Graduate Opportunity Scholarship from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. Stovall received an out-of-state fee waiver.

Mike Norton of Lincoln, a 2013 spring graduate from the University of Arkansas, has been named one of 34 Marshall Scholars for 2014 by the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission.

Norton majored in both poultry science and agricultural business in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences. He will pursue a master’s degree in politics at Oxford University.

Joshua Lawson of Fayetteville was welcomed to the Harding University College of Pharmacy at the annual white coat ceremony. The ceremony was the culmination of a week of introductions to the program. Students gained knowledge, respect and appreciation for the profession and were introduced to the concepts of professionalism in the medical world.

Darian Harris of Springdale is attending Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., along with more than 960 other freshmen this fall. Harris, a graduate of Shiloh Christian High School will be entering into the College of Business.

Shelly Sharma of Farmington was welcomed to the Harding University College of Pharmacy at the annual white coat ceremony. The ceremony was the culmination of a week of introductions to the program.

Carly Horne of Fayetteville has received the Dr. Sharon K. Karr School Psychology Scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan.

James Underwood, a Fayetteville native, will travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana, in January to compete as a Division Finalist in the Senior Piano Competition.

Underwood, the son of Jeff and Cynthia Underwood, earned this opportunity after being named the Arkansas Senior Piano winner. A senior at Haas Hall Academy, Underwood has been studying piano for 12 years and is currently a student of Mark Smidt.

Ashley Q. Mix of Fayetteville was awarded a Journey Grant by William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. A Journey Grant encourages exploration, discovery, adventure and change. Students who have completed their sophomore year may apply for a selfdesigned grant such as a research project, study-away experience, entrepreneurial opportunity, internship, civic engagement initiative or service project. Journey Grants are a minimum of $2,000,with the opportunity for additional funds awarded on a competitive basis.

Caleigh Moyer of Lincoln has been selected to receive a top-10 percent scholarship from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. This scholarship includes $2,550 per semester and has a fouryear value of $20,400. She is a 2013 graduate of Prairie Grove High School.

Jessica Helms of Elkins was awarded an academic scholarship to attend Central Baptist College in Conway. This scholarship is a competetive award based on grade point average and ACT scores.

Mary K. Sweetster of Fayetteville has been awarded a Missouri Outreach Graduate Opportunity Scholarship from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. She received an out-of-state fee waiver and a provost scholarship.

Students of the month for October at Helen Tyson Middle School in Springdale were Omar Fuentes, Kaitlynn Mosby, Amyrossita Mota, Nikki Nall, Daisy Onesto, Aylin Rojo, McKinley Tebeest and Nick Tibon.

Among summer graduates from the University of Kansas in Lawrence were Laura Florick of Fayetteville, bachelor of arts in anthropology; Kendall Kraus of Rogers, bachelor of arts in global and international studies; Melissa Rosso of Springdale, certificate of residency for internal medicine.

Because KU conducts only one formal commencement ceremony each year, these graduates will return May 18 for the university’s 142nd commencement.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock chooses from a competitive pool of applicants for jobs as residential assistants. The students serve as mentors and leaders at one of four residential housing options that serve UALR students across the campus.

Working as residential assistants during the fall semester are Danny Jimenez of Bella Vista and Jonathan Tolentino of Siloam Springs.
