Cut Fiber Optic Causes Siloam Springs Phone Problems

SILOAM SPRINGS — Phone service was affected at some businesses and the School District in Siloam Springs after a fiber optic line was cut in Fayetteville.

Jeff Jones, marketing development manager for CenturyLink, said the cut affected long distance calling for customers in Siloam Springs. Local calling between landline phones and Internet service still worked; however, calls from some cellphones to landline phones didn’t go through.

At about 1 p.m. Wednesday, a construction crew found a wire, pulled it up and cut it, Jones said. The AT&T line was repaired two hours later, and service was restored by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, he said.

During the service outage, Jones said 911 calls were routed to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
