Schools in Little Rock, North Little Rock and Pulaski County will be closed Friday because of the impending winter storm, school officials announced Thursday.

Superintendents from the three school districts spoke through a teleconference and discussed whether they would close the schools. The Little Rock and the North Little Rock school districts superintendents said that schools will be closed, but the decision for 12-month employees will be made later tonight or early tomorrow.

For the Pulaski County Special School District, school district employees will not have to come into work Friday. Pulaski County Special School District Jerry Guess said that it is "unusual that the forecast is so certain that we can make this call."

Pulaski County Special School District spokesman Deborah Roush said that school officials decided to close their districts together because it "makes things much smoother if everyone is communicating."

"Students do transfer among the districts," Roush said. "If one district is open and another one is closed, then from a transportation standpoint, it's a snafu."

Numerous schools across the state have canceled because of the weather.
