MovieStyle: Before the storm ….

Things are a little quiet (too quiet) out there in the cineplexes this week, only the Rust Belt noir Out of the Furnace and the documentary The Punk Singer are opening in area theaters. The former, director Scott Cooper’s follow-up to Crazy Heart — his surprise indie hit of a couple of years ago — features a dream cast (Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, Willem Dafoe, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Forrest Whitaker and Sam Shepard). But does it deliver? Dan Lybarger reveals all in this week’s MovieStyle.

Meanwhile, MovieStyle editor Philip Martin deconstructs the Riot Grrrl movement in his review of The Punk Singer, which charts the trajectory of Bikini Kill frontwoman Kathleen Hanna, who mysteriously disappeared from the public eye in 2005. Also Karen Martin looks at the week’s new DVD offerings — which include Good Ol’ Freda — and Levi Agee spills about local movie auditions going on this weekend.
