More Applicants For Fayetteville Athletic Director’s Post

FAYETTEVILLE — The School District accepted four more applicants for the athletic director’s post.

The four applications were received between the time the district office closed Nov. 26 and the official deadline for submitting paperwork. The office closed about 3:30 p.m. for the Thanksgiving holiday. The official deadline was 5 p.m.

The last four applicants are Blake Cook, head football coach at George Junior High School in Springdale; Kerwin Dees of Lexington, Ky.; Craig Foringer, head football coach at Ramay Junior High School; and Chris Jackson of Rialto, Calif.

They are seeking the position vacated when Barry Gebhart resigned in October. Gebhart was arrested in connection with Internet stalking of a child.

The applicants include 13 from the Fayetteville School District, 12 from other Arkansas districts and 10 from out of state.

Greg Mones, director of the human resources, said interviews are expected to begin early next week. Principal Steve Jacoby is assembling a committee of administrators, teachers and a parent at the high school.

The committee will make a recommendation to Superintendent Vicki Thomas who will do follow-up interviewing as necessary, Mones said.

She's expected to make a recommendation to the School Board at its Dec. 19 meeting.
