Elsewhere in entertainment and the arts: Winn Dixie panel

Arkansas Repertory Theatre Producing Artistic Director Bob Hupp and members of the cast and creative team of The Rep’s production of the world-premiere musical Because of Winn Dixie will take part in a panel discussion at noon Thursday in Sturgis Hall at the Clinton School of Public Service, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. As part of the discussion, Bill Berloni, who trained Taran, an Irish wolfhound, for the show’s title role, will talk about training dogs for the Broadway stage. The school is also hosting a “Keep Little Rock Warm” sleeping bag/socks drive for the homeless, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. #GivingTuesday

The Arkansas Arts Center isone of several area nonprofits that have hitched up to today’s #GivingTuesday, a national effort to harness the collective power of charities, families, businesses and individuals during the “giving season.” Restaurants, including Pizza Cafe, Big Orange, Local Lime, ZaZa Fine Salad & Wood Oven Pizza Co., central Arkansas Burger King outlets, the Chick-fil-A store on West Markham Street, Boulevard Bread Co., Community Bakery and All Aboard Restaurant, are putting out table tents and donation boxes. UCA concert

The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. today in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

Ricky Brooks will conduct the Wind Ensemble in Concert Etude, op.49, by Alexander Goedicke, with trumpet soloist Eric Liu, one of three winners of the 2013-14 UCA Student Spotlight concerto competition; Hill Song No. 2 by Percy Grainger; Angels in the Architecture by Frank Ticheli, featuring sopra-no Baylee Elkins; and Purple Pageant March by Karl King (the trio section of which is the UCA fight song). Graduate conducting intern Les Sellers will conduct Passage by Scott Lindroth.

The Symphonic Band program will include Slava! by Leonard Bernstein, Savannah River Holiday by Ron Nelson, Dynamica by Jan Van der Roost and Concertino by Rolf Wilhelm, with euphonium soloist Christian Carichner.

Legacies & Lunch

Ruth D. Shepherd, executive director of Just Communities of Arkansas, will discuss her process in writing The Company We Keep: 50 Years of Arkansans Creating Just Communities in the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies’ monthly Legacies & Lunch get-together, noon-1 p.m. Wednesday in theDarragh Center, Central Arkansas Library System Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock. The book comprises the biographies of 133 Arkansas humanitarians. Copies will be for sale and Shepherd will sign them after the talk.
