Mulberry woman killed in Crawford County crash

One driver was killed and another hurt Sunday morning in Crawford County after a pickup veered across the centerline and collided with an oncoming sport utility vehicle, authorities said.

Christina C. Gee, 22, of Van Buren was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup south on U.S. 71 near Gregory Chapel Road, north of Alma, shortly after 7 a.m. when the truck crossed the centerline "for unknown reasons," Arkansas State Police wrote in a report.

The pickup then collided with the left front of a northbound 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 51-year-old Mulberry resident Mattie J. Mirus.

The Santa Fe ran off the highway and into a ditch. Mirus died at the scene.

Gee was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock with unspecified injuries.

Conditions at the time of the collision were described as clear and dry.

The death was the 439th fatality in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
