Fayetteville High School Receives Silver Rating

FAYETTEVILLE — A silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification was awarded Friday to the first phase of the new Fayetteville High School.

The U.S. Green Building Council oversees the rating system and announced Friday the high school was approved for the silver rating, said John Coleman, Fayetteville representative of Viridian USA that worked on the application.

The first construction phase was completed a year ago at a cost of about $45 million.

Coleman said the certification is based on points accumulated on a variety of features in a building, such as sustainability, storm water management, landscaping, location, water and energy efficient or indoor air quality.

The high school scored well in the areas of indoor environment air quality, location and the use of  site infrastructure, Coleman said.

“This is really good and this was our goal,” Coleman said.
