Man acquitted in stabbing death of pregnant wife

A Sebastian County Circuit Court judge Thursday acquitted James Saylor Herring of stabbing his pregnant wife to death last year because he suffered from a mental disease or defect at the time he committed the offenses.

Herring, 35, was charged with two counts of capital murder in the stabbing death of Celestia Duffin, 32, who was eight months pregnant at the time. Herring was charged in the death of his wife and their unborn child who died as result of Duffin's death.

Judge James Cox ordered Herring to be given to the custody of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, where he will be treated at the Arkansas State Hospital.
