SPRINGDALE — Ty Galyean didn’t get a lot of touches in Monday’s scrimmage, but when he did, the Rogers High senior made the most of them.

Galyean rushed for 93 yards on 5 carries, and two of those touches resulted in touchdowns as the Mounties claimed a 14-10 win against Shiloh Christian in Champions Stadium.

His 11-yard scoring run off an option pitch from junior Cole Evans with 5 minutes, 22 seconds left in the second quarter proved to be the difference. The scoring run capped a 92-yard drive that also featured a 26-yard burst from Evans. Galyean also scored on a 63-yard run.

“He’s a guy you like having the ball in his hands,” Rogers coach Shawn Flannigan said of Galyean. “He does really good things with it, and he showed that tonight.”

Shiloh Christian had two nice drives to start the scrimmage, keyed by senior quarterback Daniel Shimer. The first drive moved inside the Mounties’ 15 but failed to produce points. Shimer found the end zone on a 50-yard keeper on the second drive, escaping a logjam at the line and bouncing outside.

“I think Daniel has a chance to be a special player,” Saints coach Josh Floyd said. “He took some shots tonight, but that’s what you expect from a physical team like Rogers. But sometimes a quarterback needs that to get them into the fire, so to speak.”

Shiloh Christian forced two Rogers fumbles, including one late that Jonathan Williams recovered at the Rogers 32. The Saints moved inside the Rogers 10-yard line, but the Mounties came up with key defensive stops by Dane Rogers, Preston Young, Zane Bush and Alex McClung to prevent a touchdown. The Saints ended the scoring on J.T. Hale’s 40-yard field goal as time expired.

• Rogers did not attempt a pass in the scrimmage, but dominated the running game. The Mounties rushed for 193 yards and averaged 7.7 yards per carry. Four players had 20 or more yards rushing.

• Shiloh Christian senior Ryne McDonald had a fumble recovery for the Saints. The game was McDonald’s first since junior high. He missed the past two seasons following a concussion.

• The scrimmage was controlled for the special teams with no punt or kickoff returns. Teams started at the 30 following kickoffs. Hale attempted two field goals for the Saints, missing a 42 yarder.

• Rogers senior running back Brandon Workman did not play in the scrimmage with an ankle injury suffered this summer. He is expected to play in the Mounties’ opener next week.

UP NEXT: Shiloh Christian will take on Siloam Springs at 5 p.m. Monday in the Simmons First/Hootens.com Kickoff Classic at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The Mounties will open the season at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at home against Mountain Home in Whitey Smith Stadium.
