$4.2 million going to 10 airports

Ten Arkansas airports will receive $4.2 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation to upgrade facilities, members of the state’s congressional delegation announced.

One airport, Delta Regional in Colt in St. Francis County, will receive about $1.7 million, or almost 40 percent of the money. The airport, which isn’t scheduled to open until next year, will use the money to help finish a taxiway paralleling its 5,000-foot runway andto improve drainage on the 640-acre property.

The other facilities receiving funding, the amount and their upgrades are:

Bentonville Municipal Airport, $551,698 to improve the runway safety area.

Carroll County Airport in Berryville, $162,000 to install a perimeter fence that will protect against wildlife hazards.

Blytheville Municipal Airport, $240,000 to install a wildlife perimeter fence. The money also will be used on fencing for the north and northwest sides of theairport.

Clinton Municipal Airport, $144,540 to construct a taxiway that will provide access to future aircraft hangars.

J. Lynn Helms Sevier County Airport in De Queen, $89,100 to install a wildlife perimeter fence, as well as perimeter fencing along the border of U.S. 70. The grant also will be used to purchase land for a future access road and hangars.

Hope Municipal Airport, $367,948 to install a new taxiway lighting system and replace the precision approach path indicator on each runway end. The projects will enhance the airport’s visibility and safety.

Jonesboro Municipal Airport, $703,000 to rehabilitate the runway and complete a runway overlay project.

Lake Village Municipal Airport, $248,475 for a runway extension project, which will allow the airport to better meet operational needs.

Rogers Municipal-Carter Field Airport, $223,205 to rehabilitate the apron, design the east aircraft parking aprons, and seal-coat the taxiway system on the east side of the airport.
