UA says associate vice chancellor was fired

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville said that Associate Vice Chancellor for University Relations John Diamond was fired on Friday, but was unable to provide the reason for Diamond's termination.

Vice Chancellor Chris Wyrick said in a statement that he wrote Diamond about the reason he was being fired, but that those documents cannot be released until Diamond gives his consent to release them.

Wyrick said Diamond declined to release the documents, because he wanted to "seek an opinion from the Arkansas Attorney General."

"The university informed Mr. Diamond that it believes the correspondence is subject to release under the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act," Wyrick said in the statement. "Accordingly, the University of Arkansas cannot release the document until an Attorney General's opinion is rendered or until Mr. Diamond gives his permission to release the documents."

Diamond will be leaving the school at the end of September, Wyrick said.

Roy Cordell, senior director of creative services and longtime University Relations staff member, will fill in while the university conducts a national search for Diamond's successor, Wyrick said.
