Three reportedly die in head-on crash

Three people were reported to have died Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident about 7 miles north of Paris, said Chief Deputy David Spicer of the Logan County sheriff’s office.

Initial reports about 5:30 p.m. were that a man and his two minor sons from the Paris area were killed when the man tried to pass another vehicle on Arkansas 309 near the entrance to the Okane Recreation Area and his vehicle collided headon with an oncoming vehicle, Spicer said.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m., he said, just west of a long curve in the highway. The man who died began to pass as his vehicle and the one he was following came out of the curve that turned from north to west, he said.

Spicer said the male driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle in the accident survived the crash and was taken to North Logan Mercy Hospital in Paris and would be flown to another hospital. He said he didn’t know Thursday afternoon where the injured man was being transferred.

Spicer could not identify any of the people involved in the accident or the vehicles they occupied Thursday afternoon.
