FAYETTEVILLE — Late Friday night, police arrested a man in connection with the Wednesday death of a Fayetteville woman.
David Browning, 56, of 510 S. College Ave., was arrested in connection with the death of Shirley Wolfe, 76, according to a news release from police.
Police were called at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a stabbing at the College Avenue home, between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and East South Street. Sgt. Craig Stout said Friday detectives found Wolfe lying face down dead inside the house, according to a preliminary arrest report. Police said Wolfe appeared to have multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma.
According to a police dispatch report, Wolfe’s daughter discovered the body. Stout said investigators are awaiting a preliminary autopsy report to determine Wolfe’s cause of death. Browning was arrested just before 5 a.m. Wednesday and is being held in the Washington County Detention Center.
Browning has been arrested on a variety of charges since 2004, including terroristic threatening, possession of a controlled substance and aggravated assault. In 2010, he was sentenced to 72 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction with 36 months suspended on an aggravated assault charge.
