Arkansas' unemployment rate in July was 7.4 percent, an increase of one percentage point over June's rate, officials said.
The state's civilian labor force declined by about 4,800 workers in July, the state Department of Workforce Services said in a statement. The U.S. unemployment rate, also 7.4 percent in July, dropped two-tenths of a percentage point since June, the statement said.
The last time Arkansas' unemployment rate increased was in May, Workforce Services spokesman Bernadette Coleman said. The rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point, from 7.2 percent in April to 7.3 percent in May, she said.
Arkansas' unemployment rate was the same as in July 2012, Coleman said. There were 1,700 fewer unemployed last month compared with last year's figures, she added.
