Leslie Welch Taylor

Where I live: I live in the Longlea neighborhood of west Little Rock with my husband, Tim, and daughters Shelby, 16, a junior at Parkview High School, and Jordan, 14, a sophomore at Mount St. Mary Academy.

Occupation: Vice chancellor of communications and marketing, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

My favorite space is: Seated at the round, quarter sawn oak table in our kitchen.

Why? This table belonged to my grandparents and as children, my brother, Chip, and I spent time seated around it when we visited them. After my grandparents died, my mother and I refinished it to show off the original wood. The table is a place where we have marked many milestones in our family, and have enjoyed meals with friends and loved ones including my stepson, Daniel, grandson, Brooks, my late mother and Tim’s mother and late father. It’s a place where our family works on projects for church, school and volunteer activities. It’s also where the girls sit with their laptops doing homework at night while I often sit nearby with my laptop working on projects for the office.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Add a leaf to the table so we could get more people around it. You can never have too many family or friends at your table.
