IT’S AS though Little Rock’s police department—and police departments all across the country—had opened fire on those Occupy protesters in city after city. Remember them? One reason that “movement” has come and gone with such speed, and become just another blip on the fast-passing American scene, is the tolerance with which a free and open society deals with youthful spirits and with dissent in general. Nothing smothers it so effectively as patience, forbearance, and respect for differing opinions.
