Where I live: I live in downtown West Fork right across from the school. Both my husband and I are studio artists, and we needed space. He has a studio at home, and I have a studio at work. But eventually we will expand. We have about an acre of land. We live in a 1923 prow house. It’s kind of like an old farm house that has a wraparound porch.

Occupation: Chairman of the department of art at the University of Arkansas. I am also an associate professor of ceramics. I teach about one course a semester on ceramics. Most of my time I’m also running the department. That’s my primary focus right now.

My favorite space: The ceramics studio.

Why? Personal space would be something most people would have at their home. When it comes to the ability to focus and just be happy in the moment doing what I want to do by myself, my favorite space is down in the ceramics studio on campus. I don’t get there as much as I want to, so the yearning and the desire to be there is part of why I really appreciate it.

If I could do one thing to improve this space I would: Make it bigger.
