‘Journey Toward Inclusion’ is topic

ROGERS - The Unitarian Universalists’ legacy of welcoming homosexuals will be discussed at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at a gathering of the Unitarian Universalists of Benton County. The service will be at the Elks Lodge, 501 S. 40th St.

Annette Marquis, program manager for the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ) and Multicultural Ministries, will be the speaker. Her topic will be “The Journey Toward Inclusion” and will focus on the association’s progress since its 1970 resolution calling for an end to discrimination against homosexuals, as well as the next steps for the church.

Leadership courses will begin

FAYETTEVILLE - The Servant Leadership School at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will begin fall courses next month and the classes are open to the community. Servant Leadership I: The Basics offers information on the fundamentals of servant leadership, a way of leading through service. Classes will meet 6-8 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 9-Nov. 11 in the parish hall. Cost is $90 and includes books and materials.

Servant Leadership II: Radical Hospitality offers an exploration of Benedictine spirituality framed around the book Radical Hospitality: Benedict’s Way of Love by Daniel Homan and Lonni Collins Pratt. Classes will meet 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 17-Dec. 3 in the north youth room. Cost is $75.

Servant Leadership: Compassion will include two class offerings, each six weeks. Class 1 will be an introduction to compassion and will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 26-Nov. 7. Cost is $45. Class 2, on deepening compassion, will be 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 23-Feb. 27. Cost is $45.

A new course, Aging and Spirituality, will be offered 10-11:45 a.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 1-Nov. 19. Cost is $69 and includes copies of Joan Chittister’s The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully, Lewis Richmond’s Aging as a Spiritual Practice and additional articles.
