Fayetteville police arrest stabbing suspect

A local man faces felony charges after police said he stabbed another man multiple times Saturday morning.

Police arrested Javier Vera-Jurado, 30, of 1925 W. Lawson St. in Fayetteville in connection with felony first-degree battery, second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, aggravated assault and third-degree domestic battery.

Fayetteville officers responded to the Washington Regional Medical Center for a report of a stabbing victim just after midnight on Saturday.

According to an arrest report, 23-year-old Kenneth Kelloge suffered at least three stab wounds.

Police said Kelloge, his girlfriend and infant child drove down Lawson Street and witnessed Vera-Jurado punching his girlfriend.

Kelloge stopped to intervene and offered Vera-Jurado’s girlfriend a ride away from the fight, the report said.

Vera-Jurado tried to stop his girlfriend from getting into the car, detectives said, at which point Kelloge tried to intervene.

According to the police, Vera-Jurado stabbed Kelloge three times in the abdomen and side.

Investigators said Vera-Jurado admitted to pulling his pocket knife out and stabbing Kelloge.

He was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center where he was being held without bond Tuesday.

Kelloge was listed in fair condition at the Washington Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.
