connected to grid

Arkansas Nuclear One’s Unit 2 reactor began producing power Sunday and was reconnected to the electricity grid, Entergy Arkansas said.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission recently completed an investigation of the accident and will hold a public meeting to answer questions at 2 p.m.

on May 9 at the plant near Russellville.

The plant’s second reactor remains idle, Entergy Arkansas said.

  • Jessica SeamanArkansas stocks up; truckers gain

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, gained 0.81 to 269.19 Monday.

“Encouraging economic data indicating that low borrowing costs helped the recovery of the housing market along with news that U.S. consumer incomes grew in March despite the Social Security tax hike helped drive stock prices higher,” said Bob Williams, senior vice president and managing director of Delta Trust Investments Inc. in Little Rock. “Arkansas equities mirrored the broader markets with advancing issues outpacing declining stocks by a 2-to-1 ratio.”

Transportation firms had the strongest performance, with USA Truck gaining almost 4 percent while P.A.M.

Transportation Services rose nearly 3 percent, Williams said.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
