Man Arrested After Car Chase

SPRINGDALE — A Siloam Springs man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after a high-speed car chase in Springdale early Sunday morning.

Springdale police responded to a disturbance call at 2:17 a.m. from a woman who was a passenger in a car driven by Jamaal Simpson, 32, of 602 Paige Place in Siloam Springs.

The woman told police Simpson insisted seeing her phone and she wouldn’t let him. She told police Simpson accused her of cheating on him with his brother and began “driving like a maniac.” She told officers Simpson hit her in the face four times with a closed fist and that he said he wanted to die.

The pursuit started at the intersection of Don Tyson Parkway and 48th Street. Simpson drove the vehicle toward Tontitown on Sunset Avenue then turned around at the intersection of Arkansas 112 and U.S. 412. Simpson then drove more than 100 mph on Sunset Avenue, according to the arrest report.

Police attempted to use spike strips to slow the vehicle, but Simpson avoided them, according to a police call log.

Simpson lost control of the vehicle at a convenience store at 4772 W. Sunset Ave. and fled on foot across Sunset Avenue to the Sonic Drive-In. Police used a stun gun to stop Simpson, according to the report.

The woman had injuries on her face, both from Simpson and the accident, according to the report. She was transported to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale.

Simpson also was transported to the hospital. In the emergency room, police noted Simpson smelled of intoxicants, slurred his speech and swayed. Police used a stun gun on Simpson again after he spit on one of the officers and was disruptive, according to the report. Officers eventually handcuffed Simpson to the hospital bed.

When Simpson was taken to the Springdale Jail, officers had to place him in a restraint chair to keep him from hitting his head against the glass of an observation room, according to a report.

Simpson was arrested in connection with two counts of felony fleeing, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, aggravated assault on a police officer, third-degree domestic battery, misdemeanor fleeing, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, violation of the implied consent law and no proof of insurance. He was released Sunday from the Washington County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
