UALR 10-16, W. KENTUCKY 6-6

UALR combined to score 26 runs on 31 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Western Kentucky on Sunday at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock. The two seven-inning victories, after Saturday’s game was postponed, gave the Trojans a series sweep and their second Sun Belt Conference series victory of the season.

UALR swept Louisiana-Monroe on March 29-31, but entered this weekend having lost three consecutive conference series.

But after beating Western Kentucky (22-22, 11-10) on Friday and being rained out Saturday, the Trojans (21-22, 8-13) had their best offensive day of the season, capped by a season-high 16 runs on 19 hits in the second game.

John Clark and Chris Burk each had three hits for the Trojans in the first game, and Bryson Thionnet hit a three-run home run in the second inning that gave the Trojans a 3-2 lead.

Ben Crumpton went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored including his fourth home run in the second game, while Blake Johnson also had three hits and six Trojans had two hits each.

Thionnet homered in the second game, too, his team-leading ninth that gave the Trojans a 5-0 lead in the second inning.

ARKANSAS STATE 13-1, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 9-2

JONESBORO - Arkansas State had 13 hits to win the first game of a doubleheader Sunday and earn a series victory before dropping the second game in 13 innings at Tomlinson Stadium.

Sophomore Collin Massanelli went 5 for 6 with 4 RBI for the Red Wolves (24-20, 10-11) in the first game, coming a hit away from tying the school record

The Red Wolves trailed 9-4 heading into the sixth inning before scoring 9 runs on 3 hits to take a 13-9 lead. Six ASU batters drew walks, including three with the bases loaded and an ASU batter also got hit with the bases loaded and another scored on a wild pitch.

TEXAS SOUTHERN 4, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 2

PINE BLUFF - Texas Southern’s Marcos Lara out dueled Arkansas-Pine Bluff starter Kyle Schwartz to give the Tigers a victory Sunday at the Torii Hunter Complex.

Texas Southern’s victory prevented UAPB (17-26, 10-8) from earning a series sweep after winning both games of a Saturday doubleheader.

UAPB scored a run in the first and one in the fourth Sunday, but Lara struck out 6 in a complete-game victory.
