Memorial service set for highway worker slain at rest stop

A memorial service is planned Wednesday for a highway worker who was fatally shot at an Interstate 40 rest stop in Crawford County last year.

The Arkansas Department of Highway and Transportation says the ceremony will be held at the on the Van Buren/Fort Smith Welcome Center on the first anniversary of Sharren Richards' May 1, 2012, death.

Patricia McClure-Hajek, 59, faces a first-degree murder charge in the shooting. Police say McClure-Hajek was sitting in her pickup when Richards approached to check on her. Richards was shot in the neck.
