SPRINGDALE — A Siloam Springs man faces felony and misdemeanor charges in connection after a high-speed car chase in Springdale early Sunday morning.

At 2:17 a.m., Springdale police responded to a disturbance call from a woman who was a passenger in a car driven by Jamaal Simpson, 32, of 602 Paige Place in Siloam Springs.

The woman told police that Simpson was insisting to see her phone and she wouldn’t let him. She told police Simpson accused her of cheating on him with his brother and began “driving like a maniac.” She told officers Simpson hit her in the face four times with a closed fist and that he said he wanted to die.

Police started pursuing the vehicle at the intersection of Don Tyson Parkway and 48th Street. Simpson drove the vehicle toward Tontitown on Sunset Avenue and turned around at the intersection of Arkansas 112 and U.S. 412. Then, Simpson drove more than 100 mph on Sunset Avenue, according to the arrest report.

Police attemped to use spike strips to slow down the vehicle, but Simpson averted them, according to a police call log.

Simpson lost control of the vehicle at a convenience store at 4772 W. Sunset Ave. and fled on foot across Sunset Avenue to the Sonic Drive-In. Police used a stun gun on Simpson, according to the report.

The woman had injuries on her face, both from Simpson and the accident, according to the report. She was transported to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale.

Simpson also was transported to the hospital. In the emergency room, police noted Simpson smelled of intoxicants, slurred his speech and swayed. Police used a stun gun on Simpson again after he spit on one of the officers and was disruptive, the report said.

Simpson was arrested in connection with two counts of felony fleeing, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and aggravated assault and misdemenor domestic battery in the third degree, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and no proof of insurance.
