Fayetteville Church hosts handbell fest

FAYETTEVILLE - Central United Methodist Church, 6 W. Dickson St., will host the 10th annual Northwest Arkansas Handbell Festival today. Nineteen handbell choirs from three states will participate in the day-long event - “Red, White and Bells - Let Freedom Ring!”

The festival will culminate with a public concert at 4 p.m. and will feature a variety of selections, including five massed choir pieces, Extreme Ringers choirs, a brass ensemble and solo performances by the Ozark Bronze Handbell Ensemble. The mayors of Bentonville, Rogers and Springdale will host prayer gatherings in celebration of the National Day of Prayer.

The Bentonville Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 901 N.E. J St. Johnnie Moore, vice president for executive projects at Liberty University, will be the guest speaker.

The Rogers Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at Cross Church Pinnacle Hills, 2448 Pinnacle Hills Parkway. The Rev. Dawn Spragg, co-founder and executive director of the Teen Action and Support Center and associate pastor of Central United Methodist Church of Rogers, will be the speaker.

Tickets are $12 and are available online at rogersprayerbreakfast.com and at the door.

The Springdale Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn Convention Center of Northwest Arkansas, 1500 S. 48th St. Jimmy Dykes, college basketball analyst for ESPN and ABC, will speak.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the mayor’s office, the Jones Center and the Springdale Chamber of Commerce.
