Shots fired into Bentonville club, man arrested

BENTONVILLE — Police arrested a man in connection with multiple shots fired into a private club early this morning, according to the Bentonville Police Department.

Bentley's at 911 S.E. 28th St. was closed when the incident occurred, but a manager was still in the building, according to a news release. An officer responded to the call at 3:45 a.m. and witnessed at least five shots being fired into the building.

The shots were fired at close range and resulted in "significant damage" to the inside and oustide of the business, the release stated. No injuries were reported.

Officers arrested Kevin William Hayes, 30, of Bentonville after a brief car chase, the release states. They recovered a gun from Hayes' vehicle and another that he had thrown outside of the car during the chase.

Hayes was taken to the Benton County Jail, where he awaits a bond and probable cause hearing in connection with comission of a terrorist act, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, fleeing and driving while intoxicated.

Police said preliminary findings of an ongoing investigation suggest that Hayes had a disagreement with the club staff earlier Friday morning and was asked to leave after causing a disturbance.
