Oxford American wins $75,000 grant

The Oxford American magazine announced Thursday that an award-winning online video series by the magazine has won a National Endowment for the Arts grant.

Magazine Publisher Warwick Sabin announced in a news release Thursday that the magazine’s SoLost series was recommended for a $75,000 Art Works grant from the arts agency. The Oxford American is one of 817 nonprofit organizations to receive the grants nationwide.

The SoLost series won a National Magazine Award for video in 2011 and was a finalist in 2010. Sabin said the series is again one of five finalists for the 2012 award, which will be awarded May 2.

The series takes viewers to side roads, cellars and unexplored places in the “modern South.” It was chosen from 1,547 applications. The arts agency awarded $26.3 million in Art Works grants this year.

The other Arkansas awards listed on the agency’s website are:

$20,000 for the Arkansas Repertory Theater and Musical Theater in Little Rock to support a performance of John Logan’s Red.

$30,000 for Arkansas State University to support the Arkansas Folklife Program.

$30,000 to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville to support an urban design plan for an arts district in Fayetteville.
