Free e-Link seminar planned Tuesday

A free, public seminar on the Arkansas e-Link statewide broadband network is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville. The seminar, “Arkansas e-Link - Building the Future Through Telemedicine and Higher Education,” will be held in the Wal-Mart Auditorium at the Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies.

Arkansas e-Link is a high-speed data transmission system connecting 454 community institutions around the state for videoconferencing. The e-Link program is spearheaded by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

The broadband network will allow higher education institutions to share and collaborate on health research. It will also allow patients to consult with medical specialists across the state through interactive video links.

The seminar will include demonstrations of how e-Link works and a discussion of its benefits. Arkansas e-Link was created using a $102 million Broadband Technology Opportunities Program Comprehensive Community Infrastructure grant along with $26 million in matching funds from Arkansas institutions.
