UA police looking into report of rape

Police at the University of Arkansas are investigating a report that a student was raped in a Fayetteville campus dormitory last weekend, a spokesman said Tuesday.

University police received a report shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday that a UA student had been raped by an acquaintance earlier that day in the Northwest Quad complex, said Lt. Gary Crain.

The accuser told police that the attack occurred between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday in the complex’s “B”building by a male acquaintance who attends an out-of-state university, he said.

No arrest has been made. University police have not yet interviewed the acquaintance and want to question others who may have witnessed events before or after the assault, Crain said.

So far, investigators have determined that alcohol was involved, he said.

It was the first reported rape on campus in 2013, Crain said. In 2012, five such reports were made.
