Fayetteville National Merit Scholars Named

The first group of winners in the National Merit Scholarship Program includes three seniors at Fayetteville High School.

Mason Hollis, Tony Li and Jonathan H. Main are among the 1,000 high school seniors across the country to win corporate-sponsored awards. The scholarships are financed by 200 corporations, company foundations and business organizations, according to the news release today from the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

Two other Arkansas students are among the first round of winners. They are Jackson R. Longo of Conway and Nicholas J. Baltz of Maumelle.

Three more announcements of scholarship recipients are expected in the next three months. By the conclusion of the competition, about 8,000 finalists will have been selected to receive more than $35 million in scholarships. Winners are the finalists who have the strongest combination of academic skills and achievements, extracurricular accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies, according to the news release.
