Van Horn chosen to be USA manager

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas Coach Dave Van Horn said he’s honored to be selected by USA Baseball to serve as manager of the 2014 USA Collegiate Baseball National Team.

“Anytime you have the opportunity to wear the Team USA jersey, it’s an honor and a privilege,” Van Horn said in a news release Monday after USA Baseball’s announcement.

“Serving as an assistant coach for the team in 2011 was a great experience, and I’m excited to put together a great group of coaches and players to represent our country in 2014.” Van Horn has a 1,017-478 record in 25 seasons as a college coach, including 10 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances at Arkansas.

“Dave’s success at the University of Arkansas speaks for itself, and we are thrilled to have him in place as we prepare for next summer,” Eric Campbell, USA Baseball’s general manager, said in statement.

The 2011 USA Collegiate National Team went 11-2-1 when Van Horn was an assistant, including winning three games against the Japanese Collegiate All-Stars.

The team’s 2014 schedule and the remainder of the coaching staff are being finalized.
