Stocks briefly drop, recover, on fake bomb tweet

NEW YORK — The stock market briefly dropped, then recovered, after the Associated Press' Twitter account was hacked and a fake tweet about an attack on the White House was posted.

The false post read: "Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured".

The AP released the following statement at 1:12 p.m.: "The @AP Twitter account has been suspended after it was hacked. The tweet about an attack on the White House was false."

The AP confirmed that its Twitter account had been suspended following the hack and said it was working to correct the issue.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell more than 150 points after the fake Twitter posting, then quickly recovered.
