Moore released from jail

Atlanta Falcons safety William Moore has been released from jail on $2,500 bond following his arrest on a misdemeanor simple battery charge. Moore, a Pro Bowl alternate in 2012, was granted bond during his first appearance before a Fulton County magistrate judge Friday morning. Fulton County sheriff’s spokesman Tracy Flanagan said on Sunday that Moore was released late Friday. Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said Moore was arrested Thursday after officers were called to a northwest Atlanta address and advised that Moore and a woman were involved in an argument. Campos says during the argument Moore “threw the victim’s phone and grabbed the victim’s shoulder.” The Falcons released a statement Thursday night saying the team was gathering more information.

SOCCER Tottenham rallies

Police in Southern California said that NBC Sports announcer Al Michaels has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Santa Monica Police Sgt. Thomas McLaughlin said Michaels was taken into custody Friday night. McLaughlin could provide no additional details. Greg Hughes, a spokesman for NBC Sports, said the company “is aware of the situation” and has been in contact with Michaels. Hughes had no further comment. BASKETBALL Volunteer to transfer

Center Yemi Makanjoula is on his way out of Tennessee after being granted a release to transfer. Tennessee Coach Cuonzo Martin announced Saturday in a university release that “Yemi and I came to a mutual agreement that it would be in his best interest to get a fresh start with a new program.” Martin said Makanjuola was leaving Tennessee on good terms. Makanjuola, a 6-foot-9 native of Nigeria, averaged 1.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 8.0 minutes in his two-year career at Tennessee. He averaged 1.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 7.8 minutes in 29 appearances off the bench this season. MOTOR SPORTS Sato makes history

Takuma Sato became the first Japanese driver to win an Indy-Car race on Sunday in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The win came in Sato’s 52nd career start, and the first for A.J. Foyt Racing since Airton Dare won Kansas in 2002. Only the Texan wasn’t on hand to make his first-ever trip to Long Beach’s Victory Lane - a sciatic nerve kept him home. It was redemption for Sato, who probably is best known for crashing on the final lap of last year’s Indianapolis 500 while driving for Bobby Rahal. But two races earlier, at Long Beach, he was headed to a podium finish when Ryan Hunter-Reay spun him on the final lap. On Sunday, he held off Graham Rahal, who took his seat, for the win.

FOOTBALL Jets trade Revis to Buccaneers

TAMPA, Fla. - Revis Island is relocating to Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers took a bold move to fix the NFL’s worst pass defense Sunday, acquiring star cornerback Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets in exchange for the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft and another selection next year.

“We’re thrilled. It’s rare that you get a chance to add a player of this caliber to your football team. That’s what motivated us,” General Manager Mark Dominik said, adding he would withhold further comment until a news conference today at the team’s training facility.

The Bucs announced the deal Sunday, saying Revis agreed to a new six-year contract. Revis’ agents Neil Schwartz and Jon Feinsod confirmed the deal is worth $96 million, with no guaranteed money, but makes him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL. It includes $1.5 million annually in both roster and workout bonuses.

The Jets also receive a conditional fourth-round pick in next year’s draft that will become a third-rounder if Revis is on the Buccaneers’ roster on the third day of the 2014 league year.

The trade was completed about two hours after Revis arrived in Tampa by private jet to take a physical for the Bucs, who wanted to check out his surgically repaired left knee.

Tampa Bay Coach Greg Schiano drove his car onto the tarmac to meet the plane, greeted Revis and whisked the cornerback away to One Buccaneer Place.

Tampa Bay opens the season at - that’s right - the Jets.
