GYMNASTICS UA’s Grable sixth on floor

Arkansas junior All-American Katherine Grable recorded a 9.8875 on the floor Sunday in the NCAA Event Finals, finishing sixth nationally in Los Angeles. Grable scored a 9.95 to tie for the event title on Friday in Arkansas’ semifinal to qualify for the individual event finals.

SOFTBALL Arkansas falls to Kentucky

Arkansas fell to No. 17 Kentucky, 5-3, on Sunday at Bogle Park in Fayetteville.

Arkansas (30-17, 8-10) was led by Jennifer Rambo, who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and 3 walks. Arkansas starter Kimmy Beasley allowed five runs in four innings to the Wildcats (34-14, 10-8).

UCA defeats SE Louisiana

Central Arkansas (31-16, 10-9 Southland Conference) scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 5-0 victory in Conway. Second baseman Melissa Bryant, third baseman Tiffany Roby, and designated player Jessie Taylor had RBI in the inning. Kelsie Armstrong (24-10) won, throwing her fifth complete game.

Cappelen wins SEC title; Razorbacks 6th

Arkansas junior Sebastian Cappelen won the 2013 SEC Individual title with a final round 4-under par, 66, leading the Razorbacks to a sixth-place finish in the team standings at Seaside Golf Course on St. Simons Island, Ga., on Sunday afternoon. Cappelen’s victory was the first by a Razorback since Bud Still won the individual title in 1995. Arkansas placed sixth in the team standings at 28 over, four strokes out of fourth and eight out of third. No. 2 Alabama won the team title at 8 over and was followed by South Carolina at 10 over.

Tubert tied for third; UA seventh

Arkansas junior Emily Tubert tied for third place leading the Razorbacks to a tie for seventh place at the 2013 SEC Women’s Championship in Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday. The Razorbacks shot a 302 - their best score of the weekend to finish with a 923 (313-308-302). Tubert finished with a 226 (76-74-76) for the 54-hole tournament.

BASEBALL Harding tops Ouachita Baptist

Matt Calhoun hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning and Harding (26-17, 15-12 Great American Conference) scored three in the eighth inning to rally for a 7-4 victory over Ouachita Baptist (20-23-1, 12-15) on Sunday in Searcy.

BASS FISHING

Louisiana-Monroe tops FLW college field

The University of Louisiana-Monroe team of Paul Clark and Brett Preuett weighed in a 12-pound, 4-ounce stringer of just four fish Sunday but it was enough to capture the 2013 FLW College Fishing National Championship on Beaver Lake.

The team produced a three-day total of 40-3 and jumped past second-day leader Alabama and Angelo State which both managed just under 5 pounds on Sunday.

Clark and Preutt won a $30,000 prize package and an automatic berth into the Forrest Wood Cup which is to be held Aug. 15-18 on the Red River in Shreveport.
