SUN BELT ARKANSAS STATE 7, LOUISIANA-MONROE 5

Arkansas State (21-17, 7-9 Sun Belt) tied a season-high with 11 walks and scored three runs off three bases-loaded hit batsmen to earn a road victory at Louisiana-Monroe (14-24, 4-12) on Friday at Warhawk Field.

Austin Baker tied a school record by drawing four walks, while Kaleb Brown went 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Daniel Wright (4-3) was solid in eight innings of work. He gave up just one run through the first seven innings before surrendering four in the bottom of the eighth.

John Koch pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his fourth save.

TROY 2, UALR 1

UALR (18-19, 5-11 Sun Belt) scored a run in the top of the sixth, but it was not enough as Troy (27-11, 9-11 SBC) held on for the victory Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy, Ala.

Senior Chance Cleveland (4-6) threw a complete game, allowing only 3 hits and2 runs while striking out 6 in the loss.

Taylor Hicks (5-2) also went the distance for Troy, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9.

Junior Ben Crumpton led the Trojans’ offense with a triple, a walk and a run scored.

Junior Austin Pfeiffer added an RBI ground out.

UALR scored its only run in the sixth. Crumpton drove the first pitch of the inning to center field and scored on Pfeiffer’s ground out.

With one out, senior Blake Johnson singled and stole second.

He advanced to third on a two-out, infield single by senior Chris Burk, but a strikeout ended the UALR threat.

SOUTHLAND CENTRAL ARKANSAS 7, TEXAS A&M-CC 2

Central Arkansas got three hits and three RBI from Garrett Brown and a solid pitching performance from Caleb McClanahan to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the Southland Conference series opener Friday at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Brown, a senior third baseman from Marlow, Okla., went 3 for 5 with 3 two-out RBI. McClanahan, a senior right hander from Wynne, went 8 innings, striking out 8 and allowing 8 hits and 2 runs.

The Bears (27-9, 7-6 Southland) had six two-out RBI on the night. Brown spotted UCA a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a two-run single that scored Jonathan Davis and Ethan Harris.

Davis went 1 for 2 with 3 walks and 3 runs scored. Scott Zimmerle finished 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Treece was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Marietta went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Senior Ethan McKinzie came on in the ninth and got the Islanders out in order on nine pitches.
