Rogers High Blanks Siloam Springs

ROGERS — The keepers for the Rogers High girls’ soccer team probably felt a bit detached from the game Friday night.

In Rogers’ 3-0 win against Siloam Springs in the 7A/6AWest Conference matchup, not a single shot was taken against the Lady Mountaineers.

“I always like when there’s not a shot on goal,” Rogers coach Taylor Hayes said. “I know the goalkeepers are bored, but it always make you feel better when they’re bored.”

On the opposite side of the field, was Siloam Springs (11-6, 1-4) goalie Hannah Poor, who made 25 saves to do her part in keeping the game from getting out of hand.

“She’s an amazing keeper at 5-foot-1,” Lady Panthers coach Jason Bowen said. “She keeps us in a lot of games.”

But without much happening offensively for the Lady Panthers, Poor could only do so much.

“We got beat by a very good team,” Bowen said.

After two close conference losses to Bentonville and Fayetteville earlier in April, Hayes said she was pleased to see some normalcy restored. She was especially satisfied with the balanced offensive eff ort.

Three Lady Mounties (11-4-2, 3-2) scored in the game with two goals coming in the fi rst half, one each from McKinzie James and Samantha Warren, and the third in the second half from Meagan Johnson.

“We are finally were playing beautiful soccer,” Hayes said. “I told my girls, I don’t know what you ate tonight, but I want you to do it again.”

Mario Flores, James Pollard and Aldair Umana scored goals for the Panthers.

The Mountaineers had a number of scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalize. The Mounties also played a player short after one of the Rogers players received his second yellow card with just under 18 minutes left. Rogers coach Steven Peck entered a substitute, but a rule change disallowed that substitution.

Rogers finished the game with just 10 players, and the player who was ejected will miss next week’s match against Springdale Har-Ber.
