Immigration topic for Wednesday talk

FAYETTEVILLE - Elizabeth Young, director of the Immigration Legal Clinic at the University of Arkansas School of Law at Fayetteville, will talk about immigration and legal issues at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The program, “Immigration Legal Issues - Recent Developments,” will be held in the fellowship hall of First United Presbyterian Church, 695 Calvin St. The event is sponsored by the church and the League of Women Voters of Washington County.

Young’s update will include a description of legislation on immigration under consideration by the Arkansas Legislature, as well as other issues. A question and answer session will follow.

Dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. for $6. Reservations can be made by calling (479) 442-4411 by noon Monday. Reservations are required for the meal but not for Young’s talk, which is free and open to the public.

Temple to conduct

dancing service

FAYETTEVILLE - Temple Shalom of Northwest Arkansas will have a service with dancing at 6 p.m. Friday. Rabbi Jacob Adler said the gathering will include simple dancing and everyone is welcome. A dinner will follow and reservations for the meal are required.

Adler said he attended many such services that included lots of dancing while in Jerusalem and wanted to bring the tradition to Fayetteville. He said the tradition of worship and dance is biblical.

“Scripture says praise the Lord with timbrel and dancing,” Adler said, referring to Psalm 150.
