School Board Approves Administrative Changes

BENTONVILLE — The School Board on Monday approved hiring Chad Scott as principal of Bentonville High School.

Superintendent Michael Poore announced April 8 that Scott had accepted the job, but the appointment required board approval.

Scott has been an assistant principal at Bentonville High since 2009. He will take over for Kim Garrett, who has accepted an assistant superintendent’s position in Springdale.

The board approved several other personnel moves Monday.

Janet Schwanhausser, principal of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, is transferring to the district office to become director of federal programs. The move is effective July 1. She will replace Suzanne Nicholas, who is retiring.

Schwanhausser has worked 16 years in education, including 14 in Bentonville as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, according to Galen Havner, district director of human resources. She has a doctorate in education from the University of Arkansas.

The district is accepting applications for the Jefferson principal’s position. Filling the position likely will take three weeks, Havner said.

The board also filled two assistant principal positions.

Chris Long, in her first year as adviser coordinator at high school, will move to Washington Junior High School to be an assistant principal. Long worked at the Benton County School of the Arts for 10 years before coming to Bentonville.

Bradley Webber, an English teacher at Washington Junior High School, will be an assistant principal at Fulbright Junior High School, which will open this fall.

The board also approved hiring Haley Meyer for the new part-time position of social media coordinator. Meyer, a 2012 Bentonville High graduate and a University of Arkansas student, will earn $13 per hour, Havner said.
