Sex Offender Accused of Taking Photos at School

Washington County deputies arrested a registered sex offender Monday after police said he visited a Springdale elementary school and took photos of students.

Christopher Kimberling, 30, of 32529 Arkansas 295 in Hindsville faces a felony charge of being a registered sex offender on a school campus, where he is prohibited.

The assistant principal at John Tyson Elementary School notified police in early March that Kimberling was at a school performance on Feb. 25, according to a circuit court affidavit for an arrest warrant. Springdale police said she recognized Kimberling from his picture on the Arkansas sex offender’s website. She observed Kimberling taking photos of students during the performance and handing out fliers, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states Kimberling admitted in 2003 to being sexually attracted to females under the age of 10. The school performance was by second-grade students, the affidavit states.

Kimberling was convicted in 2005 of felony first-degree sexual abuse and theft of property. He was sentenced to 29 days in jail and given five years of probation.

He was released Monday on a $2,500 bond from the Washington County Detention Center.
