Second thoughts

In Green Bay, he could have led ceremony

A Milwaukee couple will never forget who shot the photos of their surprise marriage proposal during a chance encounter on a Florida beach.

Tim Schlosser, 26, was planning to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Abigail Kobriger, on March 29, the first day of their vacation on Marco Island.

“I wanted to get it over with to take the stress off,” Schlosser said.

He had it all planned. Schlosser said he would find a random person on the beach to take photos as he surprised Kobriger, 27, with the proposal and the ring in his pocket.

The random person ended up being Green Bay Packers Coach Mike McCarthy.

“Then the butterflies started,” Schlosser said. “We’re from Wisconsin and we’re huge Packer fans.”

The couple first just shook McCarthy’s hand, told him to enjoy his vacation and left, but decidedto go back to the beach and ask him to pose for a photo.

Schlosser said the coach told them “no problem” and put his arm around Kobriger as Schlosser took a picture. Then to Kobriger’s surprise, Schlosser asked McCarthy to take a photo of them.

When McCarthy obliged, Schlosser asked him to wait for a second.

“Hang on, Coach,” Schlosser told him. “I got one thing to do here.”

Schlosser dropped to one knee as he pulled out the ring and asked Kobriger for her hand in marriage.

McCarthy snapped photos of it like he was a video assistant for Bill Belichick, taking 30 pictures, so it’s a good thing she said yes.

Caddie and carry

Rory McIlroy seems to be getting the better of Bubba Watson as far as caddies are concerned for today’s annual Par 3 Tournament that precedes the Masters in Augusta, Ga.

McIlroy said Tuesday that his girlfriend, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, will be “on the bag tomorrow.”

Watson, the defending Masters champion, has to settle for his 1-year-old son, Caleb, even though he isn’t even old enough to walk.

“We’ll be carrying him,” Watson said. “So I guess we’ll be caddying him.” Practice?

Dwight Perry of The Seattle Times writes that a certain former NBA star now knows what athletes mean when they say it pays to practice.

“The [New York] Jets say cornerback Darrelle Revis has $3 million in contractual bonusmoney riding on his participation in offseason workouts,” Perry writes.

“ ‘Now why didn’t I think of that?’ moaned Allen Iverson.” Dress dilemma

Golfer Belen Mozo has granted the wish of a Knoxville, Tenn., high school student and agreed to be his prom date.

Mozo’s agent, Miles Soboroff, confirmed Monday that the Spanish golfer will accompany 19-year-old Alex Notte, who has hearing, vision and neurological disorders, to the Bearden High School prom May 11.

Alex’s older sister, Arielle, told The Knoxville News Sentinel, which first reported the date, that she helped extend the invitation to Mozo by shooting a video and posting it on YouTube and Facebook.

Mozo learned of the video, called Alex’s mother, Kristine Notte, to confirm the invitation was for real, and then accepted it.

“I was really moved when I saw the video,” Belen said in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press. “I knew immediately that I wanted to say ‘yes,’ but the only question that popped into my mind is, ‘What am I going to wear?’ ”Quote of the day
