Anne Carter

Where I live: I live in Little Rock’s Hillsborough neighborhood with my husband and two sons.

Occupation: I am the development director for Little Rock Catholic High School.

My favorite space is: my kitchen.

Why? I have always wanted an open eat-in kitchen, and it was a priority for me when we were looking to buy a new house last year. Everything happens in the kitchen. My sons sit at the bar and do their homework. When we entertain, we all end up in the kitchen because there is plenty of space and different areas in which to sit. It opens to the den and also to the deck. We have about 20 trees in our backyard, so we have plenty of shade, and it’s fun being up in the trees. I also love the large window seat. It’s a wonderful place to relax - talk on the phone, read a book, just hang out. Turns out, our two Labrador retrievers also enjoy the window seat. The window is at eye level for watching wildlife in the backyard, and they like to curl up on the cushions and pillows for afternoon naps. Not that they are spoiled or anything.

If I could make one change to improve this space I would: I am not sure I would change anything about it right now. I love the open feeling and enjoy entertaining here. The kitchen is the heart of the house, and this is where we all gather.
