Heritage Sweeps Siloam Springs

ROGERS — Jayme Lovelace didn’t feel his best Thursday afternoon, but he gave Rogers Heritage just what it needed.

The senior right-hander tossed five innings of shutout baseball and struck out 10 to helped the War Eagles to a 10-0 win over Siloam Springs in the opening game of their 7A/6A-West Conference baseball doubleheader.

Heritage (9-8, 1-4 7A/6A-West) climbed over the .500 mark and notched its first conference win of the season. The War Eagles scored in each of the first three innings, then put the game away with the four-run sixth.

Lovelace, who has battled an illness this week, also went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.

“That’s just what we needed,” Heritage coach Keith Kilgore said. “We got a well-rounded game. We pitched well, hit well and I don’t think we made an error.”

Lovelace, who snapped a personal three-game losing skid, said he was a little fortunate at times Thursday, which was different from his last outing.

“I feel like I pitched extremely well against Fayetteville and didn’t get some breaks,” Lovelace said. “But tonight I wasn’t feeling very good and just battled enough to do well. Today was a good day for me.”

Troy Cahill also added two hits and drove in a run for Heritage.
