HOT SPOTS

ARKANSAS RIVER (MAUMELLE POOL) Excellent crappie reports are coming in from anglers using white and chartreuse jigs with pink heads. Bass fishing is good using white Twister Tails and chartreuse split-tail jigs. Catfish are being caught on shad and by snagging.

LAKE MAUMELLE Largemouth bass are biting well on jigs, jerk baits and Rat-L-Traps around rocky points dropping to 20 feet deep. Spotted bass are being caught in the main channels 24-30 feet deep on jig head worms and swim baits. White bass fishing is excellent near the main channel in about 25 feet of water using Rogues, Rooster Tails, grubs and Rat-L-Traps.

Crappie are biting well 10-20 feet deep on channel edges with cover. Bream are biting well on worms fished at the edge of the channel.

LAKE NIMROD Crappie are biting well in deep water on minnows and Bobby Garland Baby Shad, Slab Slay’rs and Stroll’rs in white /salt and pepper, red/chartreuse, cajun cricket and blue/white colors. Bream are biting well in deep water on nightcrawlers, redworms, meal worms,crickets and rock hopper jigs. Bass fishing is fair using dark worms, spinnerbaits and Rooster Tails. Catfish are biting on nightcrawlers and chicken livers.

LAKE NORFORK Stripers and white bass have started their migration to the creeks. The whites are spawning in the creeks and the stripers are staged to move from the mouths of the creeks to the stained upper creek arms. Walleye are spawning up the creeks and river. Crappie have started to move back to the banks with the warmer weather. Bass are being caught on jigs fished 10-35 feet deep.

LAKE OUACHITA Largemouth bass fishing is excellent using jerk baits, Carolina-rigged lizards and Alabama rigs with shad- or crawfish-colored baits. Walleye are biting well.

Flashy crankbaits and inline spinners are working best. Striper fishing is excellent using topwater C-10 Redfins and Alabama rigs with 3- and 4-inch shad-colored swim baits or live bait.

Crappie are biting very well near and over brush in 15-20 feet of water using minnows and crappie grubs suspended 4-10 feet deep.
