BASEBALL

DECATUR 11, EUREKA SPRINGS 6

Decatur found its groove on Monday with an non-conference road win over Eureka Springs.

The Bulldogs (1-2) had been held to three hits over their first two games of the season, but looked like a different team in Eureka Springs.

Allen Castenada and Miguel Garcia each provided RBI base hits to seize control in the middle-innings. Dakota Pitcher, who came on in relief of game-winner Brody Funk, struck out the side to end the game.

PEA RIDGE 2, GENTRY 1

Pea Ridge leaned on the arms of Dusty Morgan and Seth Brumley to escape a low scoring game against Gentry on Monday night in 4A-1 Conference play.

The duo combined for eight strikeouts and held Gentry to just three hits. Morgan also provided a double and a run scored at the plate.

Pea Ridge (5-1) scored in the first inning to take the lead and added an insurance run in the sixth.

SOFTBALL

PEA RIDGE 6, GENTRY 5

Pea Ridge evened its record to .500 with a 4A-1 Conference win Monday night over Gentry.

Pea Ridge (7-7, 2-0) led by as many as four, but Gentry (0-3) rallied lake to make things interesting in the later innings.

The Lady Pioneers fought to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the sixth, but pinch-hit RBI single by Stephanie Wood helped Pea Ridge seal the win.

SOCCER BENTONVILLE 8, CARL JUNCTION, MO. 0

McKenzie Dixon scored four goals as Bentonville blew past Carl Junction in a non-conference match Monday night at the Tiger Athletic Complex.

Dixon, a sophomore, had a hat trick before halftime, while additional goals by freshman Anslea Haikey and Tayler Estrada helped Bentonville (7-1) take a 5-0 halftime lead. Dixon then scored again in the second half, while Haikey added a second goal and Dyann Shade scored once.

The Lady Tigers return to action Friday and Saturday with the Heart of America Classic in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Bentonville takes on St. Teresa’s Academy of Kansas City, Mo., at 3 p.m. Friday.
